Mandela Gardens
Mandela Gardens were officially opened by Nelson Mandela himself during his visit to Leeds in April 2001. The garden features a 16-foot high bronze statue and a contemporary water feature. The bronze statue, entitled 'both arms' depicts two large arms open for an embrace. It was designed by Leeds born sculptor Kenneth Armitage. There are over 60 trees and 1,500 shrubs planted in the vicinity, along with a water feature placed as the focal point of the garden. Seating areas are provided.
